The Institute for Global Ethics UK Trust
IGE UK Trust became a registered UK charity in 1995, and has as its vision "a world here shared moral values shape relationships, determine decisions, and guide actions for every individual, institution, and nation" (shared with its US parent). The specific mission of IGE UK is to "to promote ethical behaviour in individuals, institutions and nations through research, public discourse and practical action.”
The main focus of IGE UK is on values and citizenship education, public policy and civil society , and corporate and organisational services. Its funding comes from a combination of charitable donations, foundation sponsorship, corporate and individual memberships, and fees for services.
Throughout the year, IGE UK holds open Ethical Fitness® Seminars, designed to help participants resolve ethical issues they may face at work and at home. Participants are taken through the Institute's four-part framework for ethical decision making, by:
- raising ethical awareness
- building consensus on shared values within a diverse group (the basis for codes of ethics)
- providing tools for analysing ethical dilemmas
- providing tools for resolving ethical dilemmas
Customised versions of the Ethical Fitness® Seminar have been delivered to such diverse organisations as the Association of Chief Executives of National Voluntary Organisations, the British Agency of Adoption and Fostering, Bramshill National Police Training College, the Financial Services Authority, KPMG, and National Neighbourhood Watch.
