The Institute in Canada was originally incorporated as a registered Canadian charity in 1997, but didn't start in earnest until July, 2000 with the opening of its Canadian head office in Toronto, Ontario. Over the spring of 2005, the head office was moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.
IGE (Canada) is an independent, nonsectarian, nonpartisan, nonprofit charitable membership organization dedicated to promoting ethical action in a global context. Our challenge is to explore the global common ground of shared values, elevate awareness of ethics and provide practical tools for making ethical decisions.
We believe that each of us can make a difference in the standard of ethical behaviour in our nation and beyond our borders. We focus our activities on individual character education through our school curriculum starting in kindergarten on up to senior grades, through our Ethical Fitness® Seminars for corporations and institutions, and through giving keynote public addresses and workshops across the country in small gatherings or at major conferences.
Given so many daily examples of individual and corporate ethical behaviour which has been less than stellar, and given the 21st century focus on bioethics and transcending matters dealing with creation itself, it is vitally important that individuals of all ages, cultures, and religious persuasions around the globe build a values-based foundation on which to analyze and arrive at distinguished, indeed momentous, decisions of critical, long-lasting global impact.
We believe you will find the Institute's approach to analyzing and resolving ethical dilemmas useful and rewarding, and key to improving the quality of individual decision making when faced with two right courses of action.
By becoming a Supporting Member, you will help us spread the word that ethics matters, and:
- receive at various times throughout the year Ethical Connections and President's Letters on contemporary ethical topics
- receive the annual report outlining the financial status of the Institute
- receive an Official Tax Receipt
